World No. 17 and defending champ Danny Willett labored to a 6-over-par 41-37=78 in today's second round of the 81st Masters and is currently T63 on the leaderboard at 7-over 151. UPDATE: With play completed, Willett missed the cut by one shot.
Dating to 1990, just four Masters winners missed the cut the following year, none since Mike Weir in 2004. After an opening 73, which ended with a 3-putt bogey, he was T19 thru 18 holes, but is down 44 places on Day 2, one outside the projected cut line. The 29-year-old got off to a horrid start, taking six shots to get on the surface at the par-4 first, leaving with quadruple bogey-8, and never fully recovered on a blustery day at ANGC. He carded a single birdie at the par-4 10th, adding bogeys at holes 4, 11 and 18. The Englishman striped 11 (of 14) fairways and hit 12 greens in regulation, averaging 1.89 putts. The cut is top 50 and ties and anyone within 10 shots of the lead, held currently by Charley Hoffman, who's in on 4-under, so Willett won't be able to rely on that. Apr 7 - 3:13 PM
