World No. 68 Jhonattan Vegas aced the 179-yard par-3 15th (video link below) en route to a season-low 6-under-par 32-32=64 in the final round of The Honda Classic to finish off his fifth appearance on 7-under 273, up 45 places on the live leaderboard to T5, and tying the low round of the week with three others. UPDATE: With play completed, Vegas finished in a six-way T4, five shy of champion Rickie Fowler.
This was the 32-year-old's 18th lap at PGA National and eclipses a previous-best 66 (x2). He carded those in rounds 2 and 3 of the 2014 edition, sandwiched between 70 and 74 for T12, a lone top 25 before today. After opening in 67-73-69, the Venezuelan began T50 on 1-under, 12 back of 54-hole leader Rickie Fowler and five off the overnight top 10. He striped 13 (of 14) fairways and pelted 15 greens in regulation, gaining 2.108 strokes off-the-tee, currently pacing the field in the latter with a cumulative 5.834. The Texas resident sandwiched a lone bogey-5 at 14 with birdie at the par-4 13th (from 16'3") and the ace. His other four circles came at Nos. 1, 3, 7 and 18. Vegas' 64 is a season best (in nine starts), nipping 65 (x2) and is an eighth straight cash, arriving off T15 at last week's Genesis Open. If the top 10 holds, it'll be his second, joining T10 at the OHL Classic. Feb 26 - 2:51 PM
