In an entry on his website today, Blake Adams chronicled his status after having surgery on his left hip on Jan. 29.
Adams returned to Vail, Colo., for a checkup with his surgeon, Dr. Marc Philippon, the first week of this month. "Dr. Phillipon and his staff checked and re-checked my left hip through x-rays and manipulation," Adams wrote. "Thankfully, I passed with flying colors and I was cleared to move into Phase 2 of my therapy and rehab. ... Dr. Phillipon was extremely pleased with the movement in my hip but warned me to still be cautious. I was allowed to chip and putt for the first two weeks following my visit to Vail and I have recently added pitch shots and 50-60 yard shots. ... Eight pounds have withered away and my strength is well ahead of schedule." Despite the very good news, Adams has not adjusted his timetable to return to the PGA TOUR. He plans on restarting his life as a touring professional at the beginning of the 2013-14 season in October.

In his first blog post since having major surgery on his left hip on Tuesday, Blake Adams revealed an assortment of details, including the fact that his goal is to return to competition in October for the beginning of the 2013-14 PGA TOUR season.
Expect him to start next season on a Major Medical Extension. Since he didn't cash in either of his starts in January, his goal will be to earn exactly what the golfer that finishes 125th banks. As for the five-hour surgery he underwent on Tuesday, here's what happened in his words: "He successfully removed three bones spurs, a cyst, shaved and reshaped my femur, and repaired a COMPLETELY torn labrum that according to Dr. Philippon…"looked like it had been mangled by a dog"! He also performed Microfracture surgery due to the limited amount of cartilage in my left hip." Believe it or not, Adams said that two hours after he left the hospital, he began his rehab by cycling. He'll remain in Vail, Colo. for three weeks.

In his most recent blog entry, Blake Adams relayed that he will undergo surgery on his left hip on Tuesday as previously expected.
Adams wrote: "After a MRI, X-rays, strength tests, and a Bio-Motion exam, it was determined by Dr. [Marc] Philippon and his staff [at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo.] that I should undergo Hip Arthroscopy Surgery rather than a Total Hip Replacement. This was certainly a relief because at my age (37), the idea of having a Total Hip Replaced is mind-blowing! Dr. Philippon will remove the cyst, the bone spurs, shave and reshape my femur, and repair a torn labrum. Prior to my appointment, I was aware of the cyst and bone spurs. However, the torn labrum was definitely news to me and to be honest, I have no idea when it tore! Regardless, I am happy and comfortable with the diagnosis and I am looking forward to getting healthy." He doesn't know how soon he'll be able to return to competition, but given the timing, expect him to take as much time as necessary. He doesn't want to burn even one start that would be more valuable attached to a medical extension should he need one.

Blake Adams has scheduled a meeting with Dr. Marc Philippon at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Col. on Monday at 8:00 a.m. local time.
This is the first step of an inevitable process. Adams has had a bum left hip for a long time, so he'll undergo an MRI and Bio-Motion tests to determine the severity of the injury today. However, he's all but resigned to having surgery on Tuesday. It's the same clinic where Brandt Snedeker had both of his procedures (2010 and 2011). If Adams goes under the knife, then his timetable for a return is unknown. Expect another update soon.
