Sponsor invite Rafa Cabrera-Bello painted a bogey-free 32-33=65 in the final round of the Shell Houston Open to wrap his tournament debut on 12-under 276, up 16 spots on the live leaderboard to T3, good for the low round of the day and the 72-hole clubhouse lead. UPDATE: With play completed, Cabrera-Bello finished in solo fourth.
The Spaniard secured an invite of his own, to his first Masters, with third place at last week's WGC-Match Play. He had a chance for one better today, but missed from 9'7" at the par-4 18th. The 31-year-old began R4 six back on 5-under (T19), and got there by posting a blemish-free 68 in R3. Not bad considering he made the 36-hole cut on the number after opening in 71-72. Cabrera-Bello jumped out to 4-under thru his first six holes, circling birdies on holes 1, 2, 5 and 6. Five straight pars followed, missing three mid-range scoring chances, before driving the green on the 12th and holing a 5'1" eagle-2. He briefly joined the lead (-12) with a birdie-4 at the 13th, but that completed his scoring, playing his final five holes in all pars. Cabrera-Bello's 65 matches a career best on the PGA TOUR (72 rounds) shot in R2/2012 WGC-Bridgestone. Apr 3 - 4:37 PM
