Overnight leader and World No. 196 Adam Hadwin backed up with a 2-under-par 36-34=70 in the final round of the CareerBuilder Challenge for a 72-hole total of 19-under 269, down one spot to solo 2nd, one shy of champion Hudson Swafford, who shot 67.
The Canadian was chasing his first TOUR title in his 73rd career start, but settles for a career-best runner-up, eclipsing T4 at the 2011 RBC Canadian Open (as a non-member). It's also his best finish at the CBC in three tries, supplanting T6 last year. After opening in 71-69-59, the 29-year-old led by one over rookie Dominic Bozzelli and two clear of four players, including Swafford, who completed the final threesome. Protecting his first career 54-hole lead/co-lead, he dipped into a three-way tie at the turn, exchanging bogey-4 at four with birdie-4 at five. Hadwin circled the par-5 11th to move one clear, but missed birdie at 12 from 8'4" before squaring bogey-4 at 13. He birdied 16 and 17, the latter from 25'11", but needed birdie on 18 to tie Swafford and scrambled to a one-putt par (from 11'4") for the final margin. Jan 22 - 6:37 PM
