Bio Kim completed 72 holes of the first stage of Q School at the Mountain View Golf Course at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga. in 10-under-par 69-66-70-73=278, securing one of 18 berths to advance.
Kim struggled in his rookie year on the PGA TOUR in 2011, but he currently leads both the OneAsia and Korean Golf Tours in earnings. In 24 starts on the Web.com Tour this season, he finished 77th on the money list. Notables that will join the South Korean with a tee time in the second stage include former PGA TOUR members, Jin Park (12-under 276) and Ryan Armour (278), and former first-team All-American at Ole Miss, Jonathan Randolph (279). David Skinns was the medalist at 19-under 269, three strokes clear of solo runner-up, Travis Hampshire. Among those that failed to survive include 2011 U.S. Amateur Public Links champion, Corbin Mills; 2006 NCAA individual champion, Jonathan Moore; and European Tour winners Robert-Jan Derksen and Maarten Lafeber, all of whom missed the cut on the number at 8-under 280; 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links champ, Jack Newman (281); and former PGA TOUR member, Brent Schwarzrock (286).
