Will Claxton opened the HP Byron Nelson Championship with a 4-under-par 35-31=66, finishing six strokes off the clubhouse lead.
If there's such a thing as being due, Claxton epitomized it before today's effort. He arrived in Texas just 4-for-14 on the season. His lowest round was a closing 66 en route to a season-best T39 in Puerto Rico. He's fully exempt but sits 181st in FedExCup points. Today he hit 13 greens and limited the damage to a double bogey at the par-3 13th hole where he three-putted from 26'6". Elsewhere, he drilled home six birdies, including rolls from 11'3" and 11 feet at the 11th and eighth holes, respectively. The highlight of the round, however, was a chip-in for par from the rough nine yards away at 12.

Will Claxton carded a 3-under-par 31-37=68 in his opening round of the RBC Heritage.
Claxton was the first from today's late draw to go this low. He hit 14 greens in regulation and poured in four birdies, all on his first nine (Harbour Town's backside). His set included conversions from 16 feet at the 12th hole and 10'6" at 14. Given his terrible start to the season, his owner needs him to turn ride this momentum to another low round on Friday when the wind is expected to freshen.

Will Claxton tied for 60th in his first RBC Heritage last year, and is back for another try.
Claxton’s sophomore year on TOUR has only resulted in two paydays in 10 attempts, placing him 201st in the current FedExCup standings. That’s a dicey position, given he must rank inside the top 200 at season’s end if he is to make the four-tournament qualifier for a 2013-2014 PGA TOUR card. He could use something much better than a T60 this trip to Harbour Town.

Will Claxton's 6-under-par 33-33=66 in the final round of the Puerto Rico Open was his low round of the season, and he finished the week at 10-under 278.
Claxton had missed five of his first six cuts entering the week, after only missing seven cuts in 28 events in his rookie season last year. Needing a remedy, he got it at Trump International Golf Club-Puerto Rico. He circled eight birdies to just two bogeys in his final lap. He will look to continue his momentum at the Tampa Bay Championship.
