With a three-stroke victory at the Mizuno Open on the Japan Golf Tour, Brad Kennedy has qualified for next month's British Open.
The Aussie finished at 17-under-par 271 to secure his first title on the circuit. It's his first top 30 in eight starts anywhere this year. The top four on the leaderboard not already exempt into the British earned exemptions into the major. Toshinori Muto and Toru Taniguchi shared runner-up honors at 14-under 274. Taniguchi was already exempt into the British, so Muto gets the second of four berths. At 6-under 275, Koumei Oda placed solo fourth at the Mizuno for the third exemption. Ten golfers tied for fourth at 11-under 277 at JFE Setonaikai Golf Club in Okayama, forcing a tiebreaker for the final tee time at Royal Lytham & St. Annes. By virtue of having the highest world ranking of the lot, Hiroyuki Fujita (65th) rounded out the quartet of qualifiers. Sun, Jun 24, 2012 11:47:00 AM
