Michael Kim has decided to turn professional after two-and-a-half years at the University of California.
The 2013 Jack Nicklaus Award recipient finished T56 at Q School on Tuesday, but he was already angling at the play-for-pay ranks. He'll make his first appearance as a pro at the Farmers Insurance Open on Jan. 23-26. "I kind of realized how much of a grind Q School is, and I really don’t want to do that again," he said. "I probably won’t get that many starts on the, so I’ll have to play well when I do. I just felt like it was time to move on. I feel like I’ve accomplished everything I can in college, other than a national championship." It was right around this time last year that another college stud, Jordan Spieth, left the University of Texas midterm. However, Kim's game won't necessarily parallel that of the 2013 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year. "I'm not going to be a Dustin Johnson, bombing it around the course," Kim added. "I want to be Zach Johnson -- hit it down the middle and then kill it with my short game and putting." Fri, Dec 20, 2013 12:03:00 AM
