World No. 104 Charles Howell III authored a 5-under-par 34-31=65 in the final round of the Sony Open in Hawaii to reach 16-under 264, up four places to T6 with play still in progress.
After opening in 65-66, the 37-year-old improved to 16-for-16 at Waialae CC. He tacked on a three-birdie one-bogey 68 to begin the final frame in a six-way logjam on 11-under (T10). The Augusta, Georgia, native landed nine (of 14) fairways and 13 greens in regulation, recording 4.239 SG: Tee-to-Green, but -0.991 SG: Putting. He squared a lone bogey-4 at the fourth but erased it with birdies on Nos. 7, 9, 11, 12, 14 and 18. Five of the six dropped from inside of nine feet, adding a 21-footer from off the green at the par-3 11th. This will be CH3's ninth top 10 at the Sony, first since T8 in 2014, and second of the season in six starts (T7, OHL Classic). Jan 15 - 9:43 PM
