With his two-stroke victory at the Japan Golf Tour Championship today, Japan's Yoshitaka Takeya secured an exemption into the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational this summer.
This is a win that will garner virtually zero attention today even though it should. The 34-year-old entered the week at 996th in the Official World Golf Ranking and had never posted a top 10 in limited action on the Japan Golf Tour. Takeya holed 23 birdies against six bogeys at Shishido Hills Country Club's West Course in Kasama in the Ibaraki Prefecture. After opening with 3-under-par 69, he shared the 36- and 54-hole leads with South Korea's Dong-kyu Jang before closing with 68 to post 17-under 271, two clear of Sang-hee Lee of South Korea. Jang settled for 73 and a share of third place with Hideto Tanihara. Takeya has never competed in a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event. Sun, Jun 22, 2014 12:32:00 PM
