Steve Flesch spun a 4-under-par 33-33=66 in his second round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship, but will miss the cut.
Flesch offset one bogey with five birdies today to shave 11 strokes off Thursday's opening round that featured seven bogeys and a double. Now 0-for-2 on the season, he's down to four starts on his Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $647,510 and a promotion to the Major Medical category. He'll try again at next week's Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, a tournament that he won in 2004.

In an interview on Wednesday during "Talk of the TOUR" on PGA TOUR's SiriusXM station, Steve Flesch revealed his intended schedule for the 2013 season.
The lefty has appeared more on Golf Channel than inside the ropes, missing the cut at Pebble Beach in his only appearance this season. He has five starts remaining on his Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $647,510 and a promotion to the Major Medical category. He doesn't have any fantasy value, and Non-exempt medicals don't carry over into a following season if not used, so he'll compete if he's able or forfeit the starts. Flesch cited expected appearances at the Byron Nelson (May 16-19), Colonial (May 23-26; he's a former champ [2004], but his angles at entry are severely limited), St. Jude (June 6-9), Greenbrier (July 4-7), Sanderson Farms (July 18-21) and Reno-Tahoe (Aug. 1-4). If he fails to meet the terms of his medical and doesn't secure conditional status, he'd tumble in the Past Champions category, which would likely exempt him into the RTO anyway given the history of how deep that field goes to start 132.

Steve Flesch missed the cut at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am by six strokes at 5-over-par 75-69-75=219.
This was Flesch's first start since the True South Classic in July. That resulted in his 12th missed cut in as many starts last year. He then had shoulder surgery on Aug. 10, and then later withdrew during the final stage of Q School. The lefty now has five starts on his Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $647,510 and a promotion to the Major Medical category.

If that monetary goal looks familiar, it's because it's exactly what Kevin Chappell pocketed finishing 125th on the 2012 money list. Flesch is chasing that number because he went 0-for-12 on the PGA TOUR before having shoulder surgery on Aug. 10. He returned to action at the final stage of Q School (where he was granted an exemption via his medical) but withdrew after five rounds. The lefty turned 45 this year and should be avoided in all formats.
