Charley Hoffman's run for his third PGA TOUR victory came up short at the RBC Heritage, dropping into a tie for sixth at 5-under-par 279 after a 6-over 37-40=77 in the finale.
His only birdie of the day came from 11'7" at the par-5 fifth, and was sandwiched between his only two bogeys on Harbour Town's front nine. Things got ugly on the back. Bogeys at 12, 17 and 18 were joined by a double bogey when his tee shot found the water on the par-3 14th. He'll try and get over this quickly, moving on the the Zurich Classic of New Orleans later this week.

Charley Hoffman had the flat stick working in the third round of the RBC Heritage, turning in a bogey-free 5-under-par 32-34=66 and toting a two-stroke lead over Webb Simpson into the final round at 11-under 202.
Hoffman's putter was the story, needing just 21 putts to navigate Harbour Town's small greens. He birdied four of his first five holes, opening with a 31'7" momentum builder on the par-4 first hole. After a birdie on the fifth hole, he would have to wait all the way until the 15th hole for his fifth birdie, falling from 38'2." Following a wayward approach to the par-4 18th, he faced a 10'1" par attempt to stay blemish-free and converted. In all, he had one-putt par saves from outside eight feet on four occasions. Should he hold on and capture the win, it would be his third on the PGA TOUR.

Charley Hoffman backed up his opening 66 at the RBC Heritage with 1-under-par 36-34=70 to reach the midpoint in 6-under 136, good for a slice of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.
Blondilocks hit 13 greens in regulation today and offset three bogeys with four birdies, all of which finding the cup from inside 10 feet. He reeled in the red number with birdies at his last two holes, Nos. 8 and 9 at Harbour Town. Hoffman's loudest hiccup of the day occurred at the par-5 15th hole where he found the drink with his approach, but would eventually roll in a bogey putt from 8'3".

Charley Hoffman turned in a 5-under-par 32-34=66 for his opening round of the RBC Heritage and finished one stroke off the overnight lead.
Hoffman has been motoring along. After a share of 20th place in Houstin, he tied for third in San Antonio. So, given he finished T8 at last year's stop at Harbour Town, the converging trends were in his favor. He hit only 10 greens but rolled in six birdies, including respective conversions from 18'11" and 17'1" at the seventh and 10th holes. Blondilocks' lone blemish was a bogey-4 at the 17th hole where he found a greenside bunker off the tee.
