Past champ Phil Mickelson battled to a 2-under-par 33-35=68 in the third round of the 98th PGA Championship to reach 1-under 209, up 21 spots to T40 with play still in progress.
Lefty won the 2005 edition here at Baltusrol GC with a 72-hole aggregate of 4-under 276. He opened that year with two rounds under-par and closed with two rounds over-par. This year, with ideal scoring conditions over the first two days, he'd been over-par since his first hole, sleepwalking his opening 11 holes in birdie-less 4-over before rebounding for 1-over 71. Round 2 began with triple bogey-7 before fighting back to 70, one inside the cut line. The Hall of Famer kicked off R3 with bogey-5 and squared another 5 at the 11th, but outpaced those with circles at 3, 6 and 12. It took 66 holes for him to reach red numbers, adding one more for the good with a two-putt birdie at the par-5 18th. Jul 30 - 2:15 PM
