Phil Mickelson was soaring up the leaderboard during the final round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship until bogeys on his final two holes dropped him to 4-under-par 31-35=66.
Lefty was bogey-free after 16 holes, but a three-putt bogey on the 17th and a bogey after he washed his approach on the 18th offest two of his six birdies. He landed 13 GIR and needed just 26 putts to circle the TPC Four Seasons. After playing the last three weeks, he will sit out the Crowne Plaza Invitational even though he's been a winner at Colonial CC.

Phil Mickelson shot a 1-under-par 35-36=71 in his opening round of THE PLAYERS.
The left-hander split 12 (of 14) fairways and hit 12 greens, settling for four birdies against three bogeys to finish six strokes off the overnight lead. His longest conversion was for birdie from 8'4" at the 12th hole. Mickelson needed 29 putts on the day.

Phil Mickelson fired a 4-under-par 35-33=68 to set the moving-day pace in the third round of the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.
Lefty got off to a conservative start, as he followed a birdie at the first with eight pars. His scorecard became much more active on the back, starting with a birdie on the par-5 10th. He swallowed a bogey on the 12th, but bounced back with birdies on 13, 14 and 15 before heading to the Green Mile. He drained an 18'10" birdie on the par-4 16th and followed that up with a par on the 17th before failing to get up and down for par on the closing hole. All in all, he circled six birdies to two bogeys and sits at 5-under 211 headed into Sunday's final round. He will have to sit back and watch with the rest of us to see if he will be within shouting distance of the lead entering the finale.

Phil Mickelson chased his opening 71 at the Wells Fargo Championship with an even-par 35-37=72 to survive the cut on the number.
Mickelson isn't holing putts, and it has him 11 shots in arrears of Nick Watney's pace at the midpoint. Lefty has hit 28 greens but has needed 62 strokes on them. In today's second round, he neutralized three birdies -- all on par 5s -- with three bogeys. His triple on the fourth hole on Thursday still stands out like a sore thumb.
