World No. 11 Sergio Garcia painted a 6-under-par 34-31=65 in the final round of the Valspar Championship to post 8-under 276, up 21 places on the live leaderboard to T4, good for the 72-hole clubhouse lead and the low round of the day thus far, and tying the low round of the week with two others. UPDATE: With play completed, Garcia finished a season-best solo 4th, two back, and his 65 was matched by champion Paul Casey.
The 38-year-old is now 6-for-6 at the Valspar with four top 25s and two top 10s, joining a T7 on last visit in 2013. He improves to 3-for-3 on the season with two top 25s, both top 10s, arriving off a T7 at the WGC-Mexico. After kicking off in 70-72-69, the Spaniard began T25 on 2-under, seven back of leader Corey Conners. He striped 11 (of 13) fairways and hit 14 greens in regulation, gaining 1.733 strokes off-the-tee and 4.422 approaching-the-green, currently No. 1 in driving accuracy for the week at 76.92 percent (40/52), and SG: Off-the-Tee (6.050). Garcia squared two bogeys at holes 2 (3-putt from 45'4") and 5, smothered by eight birdies at 1, 3, 4, 7, 10, 11, 14 and 15, all from inside of eight feet.. He posted 1.643 putts per GIR and -0.405 SG: Putting with 28 total putts. Garcia's wife is expecting their first child in one week (Mar. 18th). Mar 11 - 4:25 PM
