Jeff Maggert battled his way to the top of the leaderboard in the final round of THE PLAYERS, turning in a 2-under-par 35-35=70 to finish at 11-under 277.
Maggert found himself in a share of the lead when he stepped onto the tee at the par-3 17th, but rinsed his tee shot for an eventual double bogey. He would bounce back to birdie the difficult par-4 18th, sticking his approach to 2'6", but that will only serve as a reason to regret his lack of execution on the 17th even more. The veteran hasn't sniffed a top 45 all season, so this week was an unexpected surprise. He now heads to the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Jeff Maggert lit up TPC Sawgrass for a 6-under-par 31-35=66 in the third round of THE PLAYERS, posting the lead in the clubhouse at 9-under 207.
Maggert kicked off his day with a short birdie on the par-5 second, then holed a seven-yard chip for a second birdie on the par-3 third. After a pair of pars, he heated up to birdie four of the next five holes, beginning with the par-4 sixth. His final birdie of the day fell from 7'2" on the par-5 16th before giving his lone stroke back at the difficult par-4 18th. Fred Funk was 48 years old when he won the 2005 PLAYERS and holds the record as the oldest winner. Should Maggert raise the crystal Sunday evening four his fourth PGA TOUR victory, he would set a new bar at 49.

Jeff Maggert is 7-under-par 70-67=137 through two rounds of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and sits five strokes back of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.
Maggert has hit only 21 greens in regulation at TPC Louisiana this week, but he's limited the damage to three bogeys against 10 birdies, six of which in today's lap. The first of his set came courtesy of a 15-yard hole-out from just off the green at No. 4. His longest conventional conversion dropped in from 18'1" at 6. He entered the week having cashed in six of 10 starts, but none resulted in a top-45 finish.

Jeff Maggert posted an even-par 35-36=71 in his opening round of the RBC Heritage.
Gamers still invested in the 49-year-old can exhale. It's not often when you see a near-senior shaking his hand like Maggert just before he withdrew during his opening round at TPC San Antonio two weeks ago. At Harbour Town today, he hit 12 greens in regulation and canceled out three birdies with three bogeys. He signed his card sitting three strokes back of the very early clubhouse co-leaders.
