Vijay Singh signed for a 2-over-par 39-35=74 following his opening round of THE PLAYERS.
While Singh made news for his lawsuit against the PGA TOUR this week, he's still a golfer coming off a back injury that reportedly prevented him from competing at Quail Hollow last week. He split 11 (of 14) fairways and hit 14 greens in regulation but fanned on four putts inside eight feet and circled only three birdies. The set included a crowd-pleaser at the par-3 17th from 15'4".

USATODAY.com is reporting that Vijay Singh has filed suit against the PGA TOUR, claiming that the organization violated "its duty of care and good faith" concerning the golfer's usage of a once-banned substance.
While the TOUR dropped its case against Singh last week, you saw this latest action coming. "The PGA Tour has now finally admitted that the use of deer antler spray is not prohibited," the suit claims. "Rather than performing its duties to golfers first, and then determining whether there had been any violation of the Anti-Doping Program, the PGA Tour rushed to judgment and accused one of the world's hardest working and most dedicated golfers of violating the rules of the game." In a statement, Singh added, "I am proud of my achievements, my work ethic, and the way I live my life. The PGA Tour not only treated me unfairly, but displayed a lack of professionalism that should concern every professional golfer and fan of the game." The lawsuit won't prevent Singh from competing on the PGA or Champions Tours. He's scheduled to go off the first tee at 2:00 p.m. ET for his opening round of THE PLAYERS on Thursday.

Singh has popped in and out of fields all season. His last early WD occurred in Houston due to a knee injury. As we relayed to you on Tuesday, he was able to continue competing during the appeal process to PGA TOUR's sanction after his confirmation that he used IGF-1. However, remove that entire saga and you still a 50-year-old touring professional who has beaten his body pretty good over the years. Look for him to give it a go at next week's PLAYERS, an event where his best finish is a runner-up to Tiger Woods' "Better Than Most" victory of 2001. It will be a home game for the Fijian.

In a statement released by the PGA TOUR, Vijay Singh has been found not guilty of violating the circuit substance abuse policy.
The explanation for the verdict hinged upon a recent decision made by the World Anti-Doping Agency [WADA] that the deer antler spray (IGF-1) Singh admitted to taking is no longer prohibited. What's interesting is that the timing of WADA's updated position trailed Singh's confession in the SI.com report. In other words, the decision grandfathers Singh into the clear. During the process of the TOUR's investigation, it sanctioned Singh. He appealed, thus allowing him to continue to play. WADA reiterated that IGF-1 can contribute to a positive drug test, and the PGA TOUR emphasized that it will continue to engage with its members about what they ingest, but the fire is out as it relates to the 50-year-old Fijian who continues his playing career at this week's
