Henrik Stenson settled for an even-par 37-35=72 in the final round of THE PLAYERS, finishing the week at 10-under 278.
The Swede had a chance to win in a wild final round, bouncing back from a double bogey at the fourth with a run of three birdies in four holes beginning with the par-5 ninth. An untimely bogey at the 14th lengthened his odds of winning, but he responded with a birdie at the par-5 16th. Rather than continue his push upward, he failed to convert an eight-foot par at the 18th. He will not tee it up at the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Henrik Stenson spun a 1-under-par 33-38=71 in the third round of THE PLAYERS, entering the final round a stroke off the lead at 10-under 206.
The Swede got it done off the tee, missing just one of the 14 fairways at TPC Sawgrass. He was blemish-free, with three birdies on his opening 10 holes, but gave back a bogey on the par-5 11th after splitting the fairway and then missed a short par putt on the par-4 15th to finish his round only one shot better than par. Expect him to hang around the leaderboard all afternoon if his putter cooperates at all.

Henrik Stenson backed up his opening 68 at THE PLAYERS with a 5-under-par 36-31=67 to reach the midpoint in 9-under 135, two strokes in arrears of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.
For the second straight day, the Swede split 10 (of 14) fairways and hit 13 greens in regulation. He also squared two bogeys, and again, both at the par-4 14th and 18th holes. However, today's par breakers consisted of two eagles and three birdies. The most notable of the bunch included birdies from 16'11" and 18'8" at the 16th and sixth holes, respectively, but the highlight of the round was his last stroke of the day. After flying his second over the green at the par-5 ninth, he holed out from 31 yards in the rough for eagle. His first eagle dropped in from 9'3" at the par-5 second hole.

Toss away last week's missed cut in Charlotte and Stenson is the man of old of late. In his previous three starts, he finished no worse than T18 at the Masters. He won THE PLAYERS in 2009, so he knows what he needs to do at TPC Sawgrass. Today, he converted on six of 12 birdie chances, all of which from inside 10 feet. The Swede also suffered bogeys at 14 and 18, but both are among the most difficult holes on the course every year. The 14th annually ranks among the PGA TOUR's top 50 hardest holes.
