If he doesn't withdraw prior to his tee time in the opening round of the RBC Canadian Open, Scott McCarron will be making his last start on a Major Medical Extension.
The tournament's purse is just $5.7 million and the 49-year-old needs to earn $618,656 to fulfill the terms of the MME. Only a victory would achieve that. (A solo second would pay $615,600.) He's also $445,441 short of securing conditional status, which would require no worse than a two-way share of second place worth $501,600. Even if he turns that trick, he'd likely get into the Reno-Tahoe Open anyway since he's the tournament host. If McCarron fails at the secondary goal, he'll get demoted to the Past Champions category.
