Paul Maholm got roughed up in Sunday's loss to the White Sox, allowing five runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Maholm struck out five and walked none, but was done in by surrendering three home runs. The non-quality outing was his second straight, and leaves him with a 4.73 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 27/12 K/BB ratio through 45 2/3 innings. Off the radar in mixed leagues, he'll get the light-hitting Pirates in Pittsburgh next weekend.

Paul Maholm combined with two relievers on a four-hitter as the Cubs edged the Braves 1-0 on Wednesday.
Maholm allowed three hits of the hits over seven innings. He also struck out three and walked three. He's won four straight starts, allowing just three runs in the process. He's not going to keep this up, but he could fetch the Cubs a pretty good prospect come June or July.

Paul Maholm held the Dodgers to one run and three hits over six innings in a victory Friday.
This makes three starts in a row in which Maholm has allowed just one run, earning him three straight wins. He's now 3-2 with a 5.37 ERA as a Cub. In his seven years with the Pirates, he went 53-73 with a 4.36 ERA.

Paul Maholm twirled his best game of the season against the Phillies on Friday, allowing just one run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings of work.
Maholm struck out one and didn’t walk a batter in the game. His last pitch of the night was his 100th, and was deposited in the left field bleachers by Ty Wigginton. The strong outing lowers his ERA on the season to 6.20, but evens his record at 2-2. He’ll look to build off of this strong effort when he takes on the Reds in Cincinnati next week.

Cubs placed C Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list with a slight tear in his left meniscus.
He'll need arthroscopic surgery, which will sideline him for around three weeks. The Cubs acquired Koyie Hill from the Reds earlier in the day for depth and officially purchased his contract from the minors. With Steve Clevenger (oblique) still out and Welington Castillo out for a week with a mild MCL sprain in his right knee, Hill and Blake Lalli will share catching duties for now.

Steve Clevenger (oblique) went 0-for-2 on Wednesday in his second rehab game with Triple-A Iowa.
He also played four innings behind the plate. Clevenger should be ready rejoin the Cubs within the next few days and figures to get a good amount of playing time with Geovany Soto and Welington Castillo both sidelined.

Carlos Marmol (hamstring) threw a successful bullpen session Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa.
If he wakes up feeling no abnormal discomfort on Thursday morning, Marmol should be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday night with Triple-A Iowa. The 28-year-old right-hander is aiming to return to the Cubs' bullpen by next weekend. He is sure to be eased back into high-leverage relief appearances.

Cubs placed RHP Marcos Mateo on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.
Mateo came down with a bit of soreness in his forearm near the end of spring training. He missed a majority of 2011 with forearm troubles, so the Cubs are going to play it as safe as possible with the righty reliever.

The strain is being referred to as "moderate," so it could be more than a minimum stay on the DL for the Rule 5 pick. Scott Maine takes his spot on the roster.
