John Danks said he is currently dealing with soreness behind his left shoulder.
Danks has been scratched from Friday's start against the Indians and is expected to be placed on the disabled list. Jose Quintana will be called up from Double-A Birmingham to pitch in his place Friday. It's clear how long Danks has been pitching through the soreness, but this would certainly explain why he has struggled so much in the early going. The southpaw hopes to return on June 4, but White Sox manager Robin Ventura seems to think he won't need a minor league rehab assignment.

Updating a previous item, John Danks from scratched from Friday's start due to "soreness."
That really narrows it down. The exact nature of the injury isn't yet known, but given that his velocity, swinging strike rate and strikeout rates have all declined, we wouldn't be surprised if it was an arm injury of some sort. That's all speculation for now, of course. Jose Quintana will be called up from Double-A Birmingham to start in his place Friday.

John Danks has been scratched from Friday's start against the Indians.
The reason for the change is not yet clear. Danks is coming off his strongest start of the season last Saturday against the Cubs, but still owns a 5.70 ERA over his first nine starts. Jose Quintana will be called up from the minors to start in his place Friday. Stay tuned.

John Danks tossed 6 1/3 innings of shutout ball in Saturday night's 7-4 win over the Cubs.
Danks yielded just three hits to the Cubs' weak lineup, fanning four batters while issuing only one walk. He's struggled at times this season but is still a worthy fantasy option in the right matchup. The left-hander will face the American League Central-leading Indians next.

Brent Morel will not need surgery to repair a lumbar back strain.
"My pain is more extension, so if I was to bend back or when I get in a ready position [on defense], and it's more ... called something like the facet or the knuckle around the disc, which is really good news," Morel said. "They were happy to find that out. It's never operated on. It can be controlled very easily in the training room, and by calming it down." Morel will begin new back exercises Thursday, a process he'll continue for 4-5 days. After that, he'll be allowed to hit and throw before going out on a rehab assignment.
