Jeff Fassero, who announced his retirement last spring, is planning on attempting a comeback at age 45.
Fassero hopes to make teams take notice by throwing in the Mexican Pacific League. He last pitched for a major league team in May 2006, when the Giants cut him.

After failing to impress the Dodgers during a Feb. 2 workout, 44-year-old Jeff Fassero has decided to call it a career.
Fassero took the rest of 2006 off after being cut by the Giants last May. While he was largely mediocre in the second half of his 16-year career, Fassero had quite a run for a guy who didn't debut until age 28. He finishes at 121-125 with a 4.11 ERA in 242 starts and 478 relief appearances. His prime as a starting pitcher didn't last long, but he had 15 wins with a 3.30 ERA for the Expos in 1996 and 16 wins with a 3.61 ERA for Seattle in 1997.

Giants designated LHP Jeff Fassero for assignment.
Fassero, 43, is coming off his best season since 2001, but he opened this year by giving up 13 runs in 15 innings. That he's left-handed and will pitch in any role he's asked to undertake has helped keep him in the league, but his 16-year run may have just come to an end.

Jeff Fassero worked four innings and gave up four runs in his spot start against the Diamondbacks on Monday night.
Brad Hennessey remains on the roster, so it doesn't look like Fassero will get any additional starts while Noah Lowry remains on the DL.

Giants placed RHP Ryan Vogelsong on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right hand.
Vogelsong was hit by a pitch while swinging the bat in the fifth inning Tuesday and suffered fractures above and below the top knuckle in his pinkie. He's expected to undergo surgery Tuesday and will likely miss around six weeks. Chad Gaudin is the most likely replacement for the rotation, though the Giants could call up Michael Kickham from Triple-A.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated Friday that knee surgery is a "strong possibility" for Santiago Casilla.
They'll announce their decision later Friday evening. Casilla has been dealing with a cyst in his right knee since last season, and became enough of an issue recently that he had to be placed on the DL. If he undergoes the surgery, which appears likely at this point, the timetable for his recovery would be four weeks.
