Yankees announced the retirement of RHP Mike Mussina.

The 39-year-old Mussina ends his 18-year career with a 270-153 record, a 3.68 ERA and 2,813 strikeouts in 3,562 2/3 innings. It's a Hall of Fame-type record. He ranks tied for 33rd all-time in victories, and his ERA+ of 123 puts him in the same territory as Juan Marichal and Bob Feller. He ranks 66th all-time in innings, but 19th in strikeouts. Among pitchers with at least 2,000 innings, he has the eighth best K/BB ratio. Hurting his case is that Mussina never won a Cy Young or played for a World Series winner. His postseason record was 7-8 with an impressive 3.42 ERA in 21 starts and two relief appearances. As strong as the HOF class of 2014 could be, Mussina probably won't be elected on the first ballot. 1B	1	Mark Teixeira D.L. Mark Teixeira (wrist) went 1-for-2 with a walk Monday in his first extended spring training game. Teixeira reported feeling "good" on his personal Twitter feed afterward. The first baseman is currently aiming to be activated from the disabled list by May 31, but the Yankees are at the top of the American League East standings and could decide to play it safe by letting his minor league rehab assignment linger into early June. Teixeira is on his way back from a torn tendon sheath. May 20

SS	1	Derek Jeter D.L. Derek Jeter (ankle) is close to getting the walking boot on his left foot removed again. Jeter had a routine checkup recently and was told his left ankle is healing. Once the boot is removed, he'll be eased into baseball activities again. The future Hall of Famer won't be an option at shortstop for the Yankees until after the All-Star break. May 16
	2	Eduardo Nunez D.L. Yankees placed SS Eduardo Nunez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 6, with a rib cage injury. Nunez recently resumed swinging a bat, but he's obviously still not feeling well enough to be playing. The Yankees will continue to roll with Jayson Nix at shortstop, with Alberto Gonzalez getting called up to provide infield depth. May 12

3B	1	Alex Rodriguez D.L. Alex Rodriguez (hip) fielded grounders and took 25 swings in an indoor batting cage Monday at the Yankees' minor league complex in Tampa, Florida. Kicking off his third week of on-field activities following hip surgery, Rodriguez also ran from pole to pole near the warning track four times. "Not bad," said Rodriguez. It's not clear when he'll begin playing in games, but the Yankees hope to have him back around midseason. May 20
	2	Kevin Youkilis D.L. Kevin Youkilis (back) took three at-bats in an extended spring training game on Tuesday. It was his first bit of game action since landing on the disabled list with a lumbar spine sprain. Youkilis' recovery has gone slower than expected, but he's finally made some strides. The Yankees haven't revealed a timetable for his return, but early June seems about right. May 21

	3	Andy Pettitte D.L. Yankees placed LHP Andy Pettitte on the 15-day disabled list with a strained trapezius muscle. Pettitte suffered the injury during Thursday's start against the Mariners. It's believed to be minor, but the Yankees don't want to take any chances with the 40-year-old southpaw. Vidal Nuno is slated to replace him on the active roster and will likely get a start or two. 	5	Ivan Nova D.L. Yankees manager Joe Girardi indicated that Ivan Nova (triceps, side) is slated to pitch Monday in Tampa. Nova, currently sidelined with triceps inflammation, experienced discomfort in his upper back while playing catch over the weekend. However, it apparently wasn't a major setback. The assumption is that he'll pitch in extended spring training on Monday, though there's nothing official on that yet. David Phelps will continue to fill his spot in the rotation for now. May 16

	7	Michael Pineda D.L. Michael Pineda (shoulder) is scheduled to throw 50 pitches Friday, either in extended spring training or an intrasquad game. Yankees manager Joe Girardi didn't disclose any plans about a rehab assignment, but he expects Pineda to pitch in the majors at some point this summer. "We’ll continue to build him up," said Girardi. "Starters, as you know, take a lot longer than relievers because you have to get them to 100 pitches. For a kid that hasn’t pitched in a couple of years, that’s something you may want to see a couple of times to make sure he’s ready to go every fifth day." May 16

Chamberlain gave up two hits in a scoreless frame Tuesday night for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but the Yankees think he needs more work before returning. The 27-year-old has been sidelined since late April with an oblique strain. May 16
