Luis Mendoza allowed four runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings in Friday's 6-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Mendoza has been widely inconsistent in his five starts this season and now owns a 5.03 ERA and 1.88 WHIP since being promoted from the bullpen. The 28-year-old journeyman should be off the radar in AL-only leagues.

Luis Mendoza held the Indians to two runs over five innings in Thursday afternoon's 4-2 victory.
Mendoza earned his first victory of the season along the way while dropping his ERA from 6.92 to 6.00. The 28-year-old right-hander should still be avoided in all fantasy leagues, but he may have bought himself another few turns in the Royals' starting rotation.

Luis Mendoza struggled again on Saturday against the Blue Jays, allowing four runs on 10 hits in just 3 1/3 innings of work.
Mendoza walked one and didn’t strike out a batter in the game. A popular preseason sleeper candidate, Mendoza has been dreadful and looks like the odd man out once Felipe Paulino is ready to return to the rotation. If he manages to stay in the rotation, Mendoza's next scheduled start would be at Cleveland next week.

Luis Mendoza continued Kansas City's run of lousy pitching in Sunday's blowout loss to the Indians, allowing nine runs (five earned) on nine hits, four walks and two home runs in just four innings of work.
If Mendoza was looking to ensure the Royals begin counting down the days until Felipe Paulino can come off the disabled list, he accomplished it. The 28-year-old journeyman is off the radar in AL-only leagues.

Royals manager Ned Yost estimated that Perez is about 3-4 weeks away from returning. If all goes well, he could return sometime before the All-Star break.

Getz originally suffered the injury last week, but he aggravated it during Tuesday's game. Johnny Giovotella and Irving Falu will share second base duties during his absence.

Yuniesky Betancourt (ankle) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday at the Double-A level.
Betancourt has been out of commission since May 2 with an ankle sprain. It is fully healed by now and he should be ready to return to the bigs by the end of May.

Cain originally just had a left groin strain, but that has turned into a torn hip flexor. It's a really bad injury for a base stealer and he won't even start rehab work until next week. Speedster Jarrod Dyson projects to get most of the starts in center going forward. He's hitting .321 with two swipes in his first seven appearances of the season.

Jonathan Sanchez (biceps tendinitis) is heading to the Royals' spring training complex for rehab work.
He'll eventually progress to a minor league rehab assignment. Sanchez, who was placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 8, seems doubtful to return before the end of May. He has posted a brutal 6.75 ERA and 18/22 K/BB ratio through six starts this season.

Dr. Lewis Yocum confirmed that Danny Duffy has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.
Yocum confirmed the initial diagnosis by Royals head physician Dr. Key. Duffy will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery in Los Angeles within the next two weeks and figures to miss the early part of the 2013 campaign. It's disappointing given the improvement he showed this season, but there's still plenty of promise here in the long-term.
