Carlos Delgado will officially announce his retirement from baseball on Wednesday.
Not much of a surprise. Delgado underwent the third hip surgery of his career in September and drew very little interest from major league clubs throughout the winter. He will finish up with a .280/.383/.546 career batting line, 2,038 hits and 473 career home runs.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, Carlos Delgado (hip) hasn't given his agent the go-ahead to solicit offers from MLB clubs.
"He's working out to get himself in physical shape to play," Delgado's agent David Sloane told MLB Trade Rumors. This isn't much different than was reported by MLB.com over the weekend. Delgado, who is coming off his third hip surgery last September, simply wants to be close to 100 percent before he attempts another comeback. We have our doubts.

Free agent Carlos Delgado has resumed swinging as he attempts a comeback from hip surgery.
"The rehab is coming along, and I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing," he said. "I would say within the next couple of weeks I will have a better idea of when I'm going to be ready because we are going to start sprinting a little bit and I'm going to take batting practice a little bit more often. Right now, it's every other day or every two days just because you just go gradually into it." Delgado said he wants to be closer to 100 percent before he starts contacting clubs in an attempt to land a contract.

Carlos Delgado (hip) has yet to resume hitting, but won't rule out a return to baseball.
While he hopes to get healthy enough to earn an invitation to spring training, the cards are stacked against him. It's been 17 months since his last major league at-bat and he no longer has the ability to play the field. Delgado underwent the third hip surgery of his career in September, an operation that would force most players to reconsider their career path. At 38-years old, Delgado needs to hang up the cleats for good.

Franklin Morales (back, pectoral) is expected to make at least two more rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list.
Morales threw three innings in his last outing and will stretch it out to four innings Saturday. The lefty would have been activated by now had the Red Sox wanted him as a reliever, but they're stretching him out as a starter in case he's needed in that role. "Well, he'll likely get to four innings [on Saturday], and if we don't change course with his role, we'd like to get him to a minimum of five before we'd look to do something back here," manager John Farrell said.

Joel Hanrahan was upbeat Friday after he required Tommy John surgery in addition to flexor tendon surgery on Thursday.
Hanrahan will be in a cast for ten days, but will start the rehab process shortly thereafter. Either way, he's looking at a 12-to-14 month timetable for his return. Hanrahan, who is a free agent after the season, is a long way away from having any tangible fantasy value.
