Dave Veres, who is attempting to be come the first person to pitch in the majors with an artificial hip, was released by Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday.
Veres will continue to workout this winter and hopes to get another shot with the Rockies in the spring.

Dave Veres (hip replacement surgery) was activated to the Triple-A Colorado Springs roster on Tuesday.
"It's a big if," pitching coach Bob Apodaca said. "I just don't know what Dave Veres still possesses. But when he was right, you always had a warm, fuzzy feeling that he wasn't going to walk anybody, that he was going to get a lot of groundballs, and he wasn't going to beat himself." Veres will need to pitch well the next month at Triple-A to get a September call up.

Veres was expected to throw the second bullpen session of his rehab on Friday and then begin throwing batting practice. He could still achieve the improbable return to the major leagues this season.

Jeff Francis (groin) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Friday.
He'll now progress to an outing in extended spring training before he's re-evaluated. Even when he is cleared to return, his rotation spot may not be secure after posting a 6.00 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 31/14 K/BB ratio through his first eight starts. He shouldn't be a consideration in most fantasy leagues.

Edwar Cabrera (left shoulder impingement) threw a 45-pitch bullpen session last month.
We've read nothing further regarding Cabrera, which probably means he isn't close to a rehab assignment. The 25-year-old lefty was placed on the 60-day disabled list in February. He's eligible for activation, but not healthy enough to pitch. Cabrera ranked as Colorado's ninth best prospect by MLB.com this offseason.

Rafael Betancourt (groin) will throw a bullpen session to determine whether he'll be available for Friday night's contest against the Giants.
Initially, it was feared that Betancourt would be headed for the disabled list after leaving Tuesday's game with a tight right groin, but he has made significant improvement in recent days. Even if he's unable to return on Friday, Betancourt should be available at some point over the weekend.
