Jose Guillen has been training in his native Dominican Republic in order to make a comeback in MLB, reports Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportesLosAngeles.com.
And he has apparently drawn interest from "at least a couple teams," despite not being close to game shape. Guillen didn't play at all last season, turns 36 years old in May and was being investigated by the feds in 2010 for an HGH shipment that was allegedly sent to his wife in California, so we would be surprised if any team thinks he's worth the trouble at this point.

According to Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes, Jose Guillen will retire if he doesn't get an offer in the next week.
Guillen is still looking for an opportunity as an outfielder/designated hitter, but let's just say we're not surprised he hasn't found a home. The 34-year-old is awful in the field and batted just .217 over the final 28 games of the regular season in 2010. He was left off the postseason roster by the Giants and also investigated by federal authorities regarding a shipment of HGH that was allegedly sent to his wife in California. It's highly unlikely he will get the chance to play his 15th season in the majors.

According to the New York Daily News, a shipment of nearly 50 pre-loaded syringes of HGH arranged by Jose Guillen to be sent to his San Francisco home in September was intercepted by DEA agents.
This isn't Guillen's first alleged brush with performance-enhancing drugs. In 2008 he was set to be suspended for 15 games after reportedly purchasing HGH, testosterone and other steroids but received amnesty for "past acts" as part of the Mitchell Report. Guillen was left off San Francisco's postseason roster when the original story broke, but Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Guillen was inactive because of a neck injury. Baseball is investigating and a suspension could be in the offing for Guillen.

New York Daily News
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that Jose Guillen was left off the postseason roster before it was known that he was connected to an investigation involving hGH shipments.
The Giants originally announced that Guillen was left off the roster for the NLDS because of a neck injury. "That decision was made before all this came out," Bochy said. "I told Jose that I felt he wasn’t 100 percent. Cody Ross was going to be out there." Bochy said he hasn’t spoken to Guillen since right before the team traveled to Atlanta for Game 3 of the NLDS on Oct. 10.

Freddy Sanchez has reported improvement since receiving an epidural injection in his lower back, but he's yet to be cleared to resume baseball-related activities.
It's pointless to attach a timetable to Sanchez at this point. He's still not able to make pain-free throws from second base due to his surgically-repaired shoulder, and his back might be an even bigger issue at this point. The Giants are seeking middle infield help from outside the organization.

Pablo Sandoval (hand) wrote on his Twitter account that he took 25 swings off a tee Wednesday with no pain.
It was his first time swinging off a tee since undergoing surgery earlier this month to repair a fractured left hamate bone. He still has some work to do before going out on a minor league rehab assignment, but it's possible he'll be ready to rejoin the Giants in the next two to three weeks.

Eric Surkamp has experienced a setback in his recovery from a strained left elbow tendon.
When asked Thursday whether Surkamp might need surgery Giants manager Bruce Bochy replied simply: "Obviously there's concern." The 24-year-old left-hander has been out of commission since the end of spring training and might not return this season.

Guillermo Mota will appeal his suspension for a second positive test for a performance-enhancing drug.
However, as second-time offender, he must begin serving the suspension immediately. Mota tested positive for Clenbuterol, which is used mostly as a weight-loss supplement. The veteran righty has a 5.06 ERA and 9/4 K/BB ratio in 10 2/3 innings this season.

Dan Runzler
D.L.
Giants placed LHP Dan Runzler on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, with a strained lat muscle.
Runzler aggravated an injury from last year earlier this month and was given a 4-6 week timetable to recover. It appears he might be a little ahead of that projection, but he might be optioned to Triple-A once he's healthy.

Brian Wilson
D.L.
Brian Wilson (elbow) considers himself ahead of schedule in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.
Wilson, who underwent the procedure in late April, fully expects to be ready for the start of next season. "I’ll be closing unless someone throws a complete game," Wilson said. "Which would be sweet." It's good that Wilson is so upbeat, but he's obviously got a long way to go before we can identify a firm timetable on him.
