Mariners placed DH Jose Vidro on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting him his unconditional release.
Vidro was designated for assignment last week despite some hot hitting since the All-Star break, and the Mariners couldn't find a trade partner. He could still catch on somewhere as a bat off the bench.

Mariners designated DH Jose Vidro for assignment.
Vidro finally gets the heave ho despite hitting .340/.354/.489 in 47 at-bats since the All-Star break. He wasn't doing the Mariners any good anyway, and it was past time that the team went with younger players. His at-bats will go to Jeff Clement and Wladimir Balentien.

Jose Vidro had a welt on his cheek Sunday after his foul ball bounced off the plate and hit him in the face in the third inning.
Unfortunately, it was the hardest he's hit the ball this year. Vidro ended up coming out of the game in the seventh. He'll probably be available on Monday, but it's unlikely that he'll start a second straight game in an NL park.

Jose Vidro went 0-for-5 as the Mariners' designated hitter and No. 3 hitter on Tuesday.
The Mariners aren't ready to play Jeff Clement against lefties, so Vidro will still get some at-bats. There's just no reason for them to come from the third spot in the order. He's 0-for-13 over his last three games, dropping his average to .210.

If everything goes smoothly, the center fielder should be back with Seattle early next week. He has been on the disabled list since April 23 with a hamstring strain.

Felix Hernandez wasn't sharp Sunday, allowing six runs -- five earned -- over just five innings in a loss to the Indians.
King Felix recorded eight strikeouts, but he allowed eight hits and walked a pair. The Mariners' ace left his last outing with a back issue, so it's possible it was an issue for him again today. As long as he's healthy, Hernandez is obviously a good bet to bounce back against the Rangers his next time out.

Aaron Harang (back) threw a bullpen session Sunday with no issues and is in line to start on Tuesday in Anaheim.
Harang missed his last outing with some minor back stiffness, but he's alright now. The big righty holds a 7.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over five starts this season but does boast a 23/5 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 frames.

Mariners transferred RHP Stephen Pryor from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Pryor now won't be eligible to return until mid-June, but he wasn't going to be ready before then, anyway. The hard-thrower recently resumed his throwing program but has yet to test things out from a mound.

Kinney has been on the shelf all season because of a stress reaction in his left shoulder and rib cage. He's likely to spend around two weeks in the minor leagues.
