Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Monday that he will not use Torii Hunter in place of Austin Jackson (hamstring) in center field.
Hunter has only appeared in one game in center field since the start of 2011, so the Tigers want to keep him where he's comfortable in right field. Leyland plans to rely on a combination of Don Kelly, Andy Dirks and Avisail Garcia to fill in. Kelly is making the start there Monday night, but Garcia is likely to get most of the playing time.

Torii Hunter went 4-for-5 with three runs scored as the Tigers pounded the Astros on Saturday.
The Tigers plated 17 runs on 21 hits in the game, and Hunter did his part with three singles and a double. The veteran outfielder also stole his first base of the year. He's quietly had a fantastic season as the Tigers' No. 2 hitter, now batting .361 with 22 runs and 16 RBI. Hunter should be owned in all standard leagues.

Torii Hunter is not in the Tigers' starting lineup on Friday.
There's nothing wrong with the 37-year out outfielder, he's just being given a rest for the first time this season. Don Kelly will take his place in right field and hit eighth in the Tigers' lineup.

Torii Hunter went 3-for-5 with a double Tuesday versus the Blue Jays.
It looked like Hunter may have jammed his thumb while getting thrown out at home in the third inning today, but he stayed in afterwards and had a fine day. He's had multiple hits in six of the Tigers' seven games so far, giving him a .424 average.

Tigers placed OF Austin Jackson on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.
Jackson is expected to need the full 15 days. Avisail Garcia was called up from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding roster move and will get regular playing time in the Detroit outfield over the next two-plus weeks. Jackson was batting .272/.333/.371 with two homers, 11 RBI, five stolen bases and 33 runs scored in 34 games.

Octavio Dotel (elbow) has resumed throwing.
Dotel was given medication and shut down for six days after Dr. James Andrews determined earlier this month that he had no structural damage in his right elbow. The righty will eventually head out on a rehab assignment, though it's unclear when that will happen. He should return sometime next month if he can avoid setbacks.
