CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Mariners have interviewed Jason Varitek for their managerial vacancy.
Varitek, who has no previous managerial experience, has been serving as a special assistant with the Red Sox since retiring after the 2011 season. Many consider him a future manager, but it's unclear whether he'd leave Boston for the opportunity. Varitek was originally drafted by the Mariners in 1994, but was traded to Boston in the Heathcliff Slocumb deal. Tim Bogar is considered the favorite to replace Lloyd McClendon, but Alex Cora and Rays third base coach Charlie Montoyo are among the other candidates. Tue, Oct 20, 2015 01:33:00 PM
