Ryan Dempster allowed five earned runs over 4 2/3 innings but the Red Sox beat the Twins on Saturday.
Dempster was let off the hook by the Boston offense, which rattled off 12 runs in a rout of Minnesota. Dempster yielded eight hits and six walks, throwing only 68 of his 127 pitches for strikes. He now has a pedestrian 4.27 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 52 2/3 innings, though we wouldn't give up on him quite yet because the strikeout rate is tremendous. Dempster will face the Indians next.

Ryan Dempster was shelled for six earned runs in five innings Sunday as the Red Sox fell to the Blue Jays.
Dempster was in trouble all afternoon, allowing two runs in the second inning, one run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth. It was his worst start of the season, statistically, and ballooned his ERA from 2.93 to 3.75. The veteran righty will try to bounce back in his next start against the Twins.

Ryan Dempster struck out eight while allowing four runs -- two earned -- over seven-plus innings, but he took the loss to the Twins on Tuesday.
Dempster actually lowered his ERA to 2.93 in the loss, so it's not as though he got shelled in the outing. Unfortunately his offense didn't give him much support, so the right-hander was denied a win for his efforts. Dempster has been a surprise for fantasy owners this year, and he'll get another shot at picking up a victory Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Ryan Dempster yielded one run in six innings Thursday in Boston's 3-1 defeat of Toronto.
It was Dempster's first ever start in Toronto, though the native of British Columbia did pitch in Montreal several times. He was greeted rudely, with Brett Lawrie hitting a leadoff homer in the first, but he stifled the Jays the rest of the way to even his record at 2-2. He has a 3.00 ERA in six starts.

Ross has been out of commission for a little over a week with concussion-related symptoms, but he's feeling much better of late. The Red Sox will still take things slowly with him, but he's moving in the right direction.

Victorino left Monday's game against the White Sox with left hamstring tightness. It sounds like the move was mostly precautionary, but Red Sox manager John Farrell did say the club would be cautious with the outfielder. Expect him to miss at least a couple games.

Franklin Morales (back, pectoral) is expected to make at least two more rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list.
Morales threw three innings in his last outing and will stretch it out to four innings Saturday. The lefty would have been activated by now had the Red Sox wanted him as a reliever, but they're stretching him out as a starter in case he's needed in that role. "Well, he'll likely get to four innings [on Saturday], and if we don't change course with his role, we'd like to get him to a minimum of five before we'd look to do something back here," manager John Farrell said.

Joel Hanrahan was upbeat Friday after he required Tommy John surgery in addition to flexor tendon surgery on Thursday.
Hanrahan will be in a cast for ten days, but will start the rehab process shortly thereafter. Either way, he's looking at a 12-to-14 month timetable for his return. Hanrahan, who is a free agent after the season, is a long way away from having any tangible fantasy value.
