Roy Halladay will have surgery next Wednesday to have a bone spur removed from his right shoulder as well as a partially torn rotator cuff and frayed labrum repaired.
The operation will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Halladay is optimistic that he will return to pitch later this season, but it's not a given.

Roy Halladay confirmed Wednesday that he will undergo surgery on his right shoulder.
Halladay will have a bone spur removed from his shoulder as well as a partially torn rotator cuff and frayed labrum addressed. The veteran right-hander is optimistic about pitching again this season, but we should have a better idea about a timetable once the surgery is completed. Either way, he can be dropped in fantasy leagues. Halladay is in the final year of a three-year, $60 million contract.

Roy Halladay will provide an update on his right shoulder on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET.
Halladay was placed on the disabled list over the weekend with right shoulder discomfort and paid a visit to Dr. Lewis Yocum on Monday. It's not clear if surgery is being discussed, but clearly something isn't right with the veteran right-hander, as he holds a miserable 8.65 ERA in 34 1/3 innings this season. For what it's worth, Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said on MLB Network Radio on Wednesday that Halladay "stands a great chance of pitching again this year."

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said Thursday that John Lannan (quadriceps) could miss 6-8 weeks.
Lannan was placed on the disabled list Thursday with a strained left quadriceps muscle. Manuel said it's possible that the southpaw could return sooner, but it sounds like he's looking at a lengthy absence. No word yet on who will replace him in the rotation, but Tyler Cloyd is the most logical option.
