A.J. Burnett took a no-decision in Sunday's 3-2, 12-inning win over the Astros, allowing just two runs on six hits in eight innings.
Burnett struck out four and walked none. The eight-inning start was Burnett's second straight since he was embarrassed to the tune of 12 runs in just 2 2/3 innings against the Cardinals on May 2. Owners should be cautiously optimistic about his status in deeper mixed leagues. He'll get the Tigers in Detroit on Friday.

A.J. Burnett rebounded nicely from his debacle against the Cardinals last week, allowing just two runs on six hits over eight innings of work Tuesday against the Nationals.
Burnett punched out 10 and walked just one. He showed superb command the entire evening, and needed just 93 pitches to get through eight innings. He was set to pick up his second victory of the season before Joel Hanrahan blew his lead in the ninth inning. Burnett will look to build on this strong outing when he takes on the Astros on Sunday.

A.J. Burnett was shelled for 12 earned runs in 2 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Cardinals.
Burnett is just the fifth pitcher in the live-ball era to allow 12 or more earned runs in a start lasting less than three innings. He looked awful from the outset and the Cardinals were able to pounce. The veteran right-hander will look to atone for the hideousness next week against the Nationals, but his tenure with the Yankees would suggest that the inconsistency is going to be a common theme all summer.

A.J. Burnett turned in his second straight strong performance, limiting the Braves to just two runs on six hits over six innings on Friday.
Burnett struck out eight and walked three in the game. He had been touted as a potential sleeper candidate after his off-season trade from the Yankees, and hasn't disappointed through his first two starts. If he's still on the waiver wire in your league, it would be wise to act quickly. He'll square off against the Cardinals in St. Louis next week.

The move clears a spot on the Pirates' 40-man roster for new starter A.J. Burnett. Nunez, a Rule 5 Draft selection back in December, will miss the start of the season.

Jeff Karstens (shoulder) threw three scoreless innings on two hits while striking out one in his first rehab start at Double-A Altoona Monday.
It's a good start, but Karstens will need at least a couple more outings before rejoining the Pirates rotation. We could see him in early June if all goes well.

Chris Leroux (pectoral) threw long toss from 120 feet Thursday and could begin throwing off a mound as soon as next week.
Leroux began the season on the DL with a strained right pectoral muscle. Though he said he's taking it slowly and has no timetable for a return, he reports notable improvement. June seems like a feasible goal if he keeps progressing.
