D'Angelo Jimenez has elected to become a free agent.
Jimenez posted an ugly .225/.300/.381 batting line over 231 at-bats this year for the Twins' Triple-A affiliate. The 32-year-old outfielder may have to begin his 2011 season in a Mexican league like he did last year.

Cardinals reassigned INF D'Angelo Jimenez to minor league camp; optioned RHP Kelvin Jimenez to Triple-A Memphis.
That Rico Washington was picked over Jimenez for a roster spot came down to financial issues. Jimenez's $750,000 salary would have become guaranteed had he made the Opening Day roster, and the Cards didn't want to commit to him when Brendan Ryan is expected back by mid-April.

According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Cardinals have agreed to terms with infielder D'Angelo Jimenez on a minor league contract.
The newspaper reports that Jimenez will get $600,000 if he makes the team and can opt for free agency if he's not called up by July 1. He figures to compete with Brendan Ryan for the utility man job behind starters Cesar Izturis and Adam Kennedy.

D'Angelo Jimenez, rendered a non-factor most of the season, came through with a 3-for-3 game, including two runs and two RBI, to lead Washington to a 7-4 win over Atlanta Saturday.
Jimenez hit his first homer of the year and added his fourth double. He's driven in nine runs in 60 games. He was also caught stealing for the first time this season.

Twins placed RHP Nick Blackburn on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quad.
Blackburn battled the injury throughout Wednesday's start against the Tigers and was rocked for six earned runs in just two innings. The Twins need to get him right, which could take around three weeks. Blackburn has an 8.37 ERA and 1.77 WHIP through seven starts this season. It was originally announced that Doumit was heading to the disabled list, but he's merely day-to-day with a left calf strain.

Updating a previous item, Scott Baker underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday instead of just having a cleanup of the scar tissue in his flexor pronator as originally reported.
It's a significant difference, as Baker would likely have entered spring training healthy if he only had the flexor pronator cleaned out. Now, he'll almost surely be sidelined into the 2013 season. An MRI hadn't showed any damage to Baker's ulnar collateral ligament, but Dr. David Altcheck discovered damage while the righty was opened up and went ahead with the procedure.

Kyle Waldrop (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Fort Myers Saturday.
Waldrop began the season on the disabled list with a right elbow strain. The Twins haven't said how many rehab outings he'll need, but he should certainly be ready before the end of the month if he doesn't have any setbacks. He's not lock to be added to the major league roster, though.
