Jon Garland allowed three runs over five innings as the Rockies fell to the Cubs on Wednesday.
Garland was undone by two home runs, including one hit by his counterpart Jeff Samardzija. It was the third-straight start in which Garland has gone five and given up three, a remarkable consistency but not one that yields a lot of wins. The right-hander will next take the mound against the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Jon Garland allowed three runs in five innings Friday in a loss to the Cardinals.
Garland has now allowed three runs or fewer in six out of his seven starts this season. Of course, he has a mediocre 4.83 ERA to show for it and has fanned only 22 batters in 41 innings. The veteran right-hander is doing fine as an innings-eater for Colorado, but he shouldn't be a consideration in fantasy leagues.

Jon Garland gave up three runs over six innings in his start Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
Garland has pitched at least six innings in all of his starts and has been a nice surprise for the Rockies thus far. He allowed eight hits and two walks but had just four strikeouts. Garland has a 4.65 ERA and 1.39 WHIP this season.

Jon Garland gave up two runs in seven innings Thursday in an 11-3 win over the Mets.
Garland scattered six hits and didn't walk a batter. He also struck out six and induced 12 ground balls. The veteran right-hander owns a 3.32 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through his first three starts this season and has gone six innings or more in all of them. While he's not a recommended option in mixed leagues, he has been a nice surprise for the Rockies thus far.

He'll now progress to an outing in extended spring training before he's re-evaulated. Even when he is cleared to return, his rotation spot may not be secure after posting a 6.00 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 31/14 K/BB ratio through his first eight starts. He shouldn't be a consideration in most fantasy leagues.

Edwar Cabrera (left shoulder impingement) threw a 45-pitch bullpen session last month.
We've read nothing further regarding Cabrera, which probably means he isn't close to a rehab assignment. The 25-year-old lefty was placed on the 60-day disabled list in February. He's eligible for activation, but not healthy enough to pitch. Cabrera ranked as Colorado's ninth best prospect by MLB.com this offseason.

Rafael Betancourt (groin) will throw a bullpen session to determine whether he'll be available for Friday night's contest against the Giants.
Initially, it was feared that Betancourt would be headed for the disabled list after leaving Tuesday's game with a tight right groin, but he has made significant improvement in recent days. Even if he's unable to return on Friday, Betancourt should be available at some point over the weekend.
