Johan Santana underwent successful surgery Tuesday morning to repair a tear in the capsule in the front of his left shoulder.
Santana needed 19 months to make it back to the majors following his last shoulder surgery, so there's no telling when (or if) he'll pitch again. The Mets still owe him $31 million, including $25.5 million this season and a $5.5 million buyout on his option for 2014.

Mets placed LHP Johan Santana on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury.
Santana will undergo another major surgery Tuesday on his shoulder and has already been ruled out for the entire 2013 campaign. He may never pitch in the majors again.

Johan Santana (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday.
Santana is dealing with a "probable re-tear" of the anterior capsule in his left shoulder and has decided to undergo a second surgery in an attempt to continue his career. The operation will knock him out for all of this year, and the 34-year-old is far from a guarantee to return next season. The Mets hold a $5.5 million buyout in 2014.

No word on how or when the injury occurred, though it's worth noting that he flung a pie in the face of Kirk Nieuwenhuis during the team's post-game celebration on Sunday. Turner, 28, is batting .266/.307/.300 in a utility role with the Mets this season.

Tejada resumed running earlier this week and is slowly ramping up other baseball activities. It's not clear when he'll begin a rehab assignment, but considering how poorly he was playing prior to the injury, he shouldn't be assured a spot on the major league roster once he's back to full health.

Jon Niese yielded two runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Cubs on Saturday.
He struck out five. Niese allowed six hits and four walks, so it wasn't pretty, but he kept his team in the ballgame. However, a two-run single by opposing pitcher Scott Feldman in the fourth inning was enough to put him on the losing side. The southpaw has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last five starts and now owns a 4.15 ERA on the year. He'll face the Braves next week in Atlanta.

Jenrry Mejia (elbow) racked up six strikeouts over three innings during his first minor league rehab start with High-A St. Lucie on Friday.
Mejia has been on the disabled list for the entire season with inflammation in his pitching elbow. He's likely to require a relatively lengthy rehab assignment, and shouldn't be expected to return to the Mets until early June. Should he secure a spot in the Mets rotation, he could carve out a decent amount of value in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues.
