Indians signed 1B Josh Phelps to a minor league contract.
Phelps is now with his second organization of 2010 and his fourth since 2008, hereby qualifying him for journeyman status. He played 19 games for the Cardinals in 2008, but has been in the majors since. He'll report to Triple-A Columbus.

Rockies signed 1B Josh Phelps to a minor league contract.
He'll also be invited to Spring Training. Phelps, who turns 32 in May, hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2008 with the Cardinals. He's useful in that he carries an 859 career OPS against lefties, but unless he wants to pick up the catcher's gear again, he doesn't offer much versatility for a squad that figures to carry Todd Helton and Jason Giambi.

Giants signed first baseman Josh Phelps to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Phelps picked St. Louis as a free agent last winter, even though that meant he had Albert Pujols in front of him at first base. He'd seem to be in a better situation this time, but it depends on whether the Giants sign a first baseman this winter. Even if they don't, it'd still make sense for San Francisco to go to younger guys in Pablo Sandoval, John Bowker and Travis Ishikawa. At best, Phelps would probably make the team as a starter against left-handers and pinch-hitter.

Phelps had a big season at Triple-A before a late-August call-up to St. Louis and remains a solid platoon player against left-handed pitching, but he was a poor fit for a team that has Albert Pujols.

Lou Marson (shoulder) admitted Monday that there is no timetable for his return to the Indians' active roster.
Marson has begun throwing but is not yet performing any other baseball activities due to lingering soreness in his shoulder and neck. "It's definitely frustrating," the catcher told MLB.com. "I know what it is and kind of what I have to do. Hopefully, I can get on the field soon."

Myers threw 33 pitches last week in his first rehab start and will probably try to top 50 pitches on Wednesday. He'll make at least one more start in the minors after that before being considered for activation. The right-hander is attempting to pitch through a UCL tear.

Indians placed RHP Josh Tomlin on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.
The move was made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for the arrival of Michael Bourn. Tomlin is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss the entire 2013 campaign.

Wood felt some soreness in his surgically-repaired elbow during his first appearance on Saturday, but it was only a minor scare. The 27-year-old right-hander is currently in recovery mode from Tommy John surgery and will likely need a handful of appearances before he's a legitimate consideration for the major league roster.

The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Robert Whitenack on the 40-man roster. Herrmann had Tommy John surgery in March and will miss the entire 2013 season.
