Phillies released 1B Brad Wilkerson.
Wilkerson decided to retire last spring, but was signed to a minor league contract by the Phillies in February. He wasn't invited to big league camp and had just one at-bat in a major league exhibition game this spring. Perhaps this will signal the end for the 32-year-old.
Mon, Mar 29, 2010 09:47:00 AM
Phillies signed 1B Brad Wilkerson to a minor league contract.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com first reported it. The contract does not include an invite to major league spring training. Wilkerson, 32, sat out nearly the entire 2009 season after failing to make the Red Sox out of spring training, appearing in just two games for Triple-A Pawtucket. The oft-injured Wilkerson has a .247/.350/.440 batting line over the course of eight major league seasons.
Tue, Feb 23, 2010 02:58:00 PM
Brad Wilkerson told his manager at Triple-A Pawtucket that he's retiring from baseball.
Shoulder problems derailed Wilkerson's career. He posted OPSs of 840, 844 and 872 in his first three full seasons with the Expos before dropping off to 756 in 2005 and being traded to the Rangers in the Alfonso Soriano deal after the season. He never returned to form in Texas, and after bouncing around in 2008, he failed to make the Red Sox out of spring training this year. If he's finished at age 31, he ends his career with a .247/.350/.440 line and 122 homers in 3,753 at-bats. He was second in the Rookie of the Year balloting in 2002, and he had his best season in 2004, when he hit 32 homers, walked 106 times and scored 112 runs.

Providence Journal
Brad Wilkerson has decided to accept an assignment to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Wilkerson struck out in 18 of his 42 spring at-bats on the way to a .118 batting average. He was the favorite to fill in for Mark Kotsay heading into camp, but Chris Carter beat him out of the job. He'll try to figure some things out down at the Triple-A level.

Roy Halladay had surgery on Wednesday to remove a bone spur in his shoulder and repair his torn rotator cuff.
Halladay is hoping to resume throwing in 6-8 weeks and will try to make it back before the end of the 2013 season. The veteran righty had an 8.65 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 35/17 K/BB ratio over his first 34 1/3 innings this season. He can be dropped in all non-keeper leagues.

John Lannan (quad) threw a bullpen session on Saturday afternoon in Clearwater, Florida.
Lannan will throw off a mound again on Monday and should then progress to simulated games. If all goes well, he will join the Phillies at some point in early June. He's been on the disabled list since April 18 with a quad strain.

Sidelined
Mike Adams could be placed on the disabled list if he doesn't feel significant improvement with his back by Tuesday.
The Phillies will need to make a roster move that day for fifth starter Tyler Cloyd. Adams hasn't pitched since May 10, so the Phils could backdate a DL move and possibly get him back on May 26.
