Cesar Izturis connected on his first home run of the season on Tuesday night, helping to lead the Brewers to an 8-2 victory over the Reds.
Izturis finished the night 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. He was brought to the Brewers to be a backup middle infielder, but has now been thrust into a much bigger role with the season-ending knee injury to Alex Gonzalez. Izturis won't offer much in the way of power but may carry some small amount of value in NL-only fantasy leagues.

Brewers purchased the contract of INF Cesar Izturis from Triple-A Nashville.
Izturis batted just .220/.266/.288 this spring, but the Brewers didn't sign him for his bat. He'll provide a reliable backup glove around the infield.

Cesar Izturis returned to the lineup on Monday, batting 3-for-4 with three RBI in the Brewers' 13-7 win.
The veteran infielder has struggled this spring, and now sports an unacceptable .228/.274/.298 triple slash. Then again, these numbers are on par with what we can expect going forward.

Cesar Izturis was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to tightness in his right thigh.
It's the result of a hit by pitch Saturday. Izturis should be fine, though, and be ready to roll in a day or two.

Mat Gamel underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.
Gamel also had surgery to repair a debridement of the lateral meniscus. He will miss the rest of the season. Travis Ishikawa, Taylor Green, Corey Hart and Brooks Conrad have all seen time at first base since his injury and the Brewers could eventually go outside the organization for a more stable solution.

It's just a procedural move. Gonzalez underwent season-ending surgery for a torn ACL about one week ago.

Chris Narveson underwent successful surgery Tuesday to repair the labrum and rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder.
Narveson will need nine months to recover, so he will miss the rest of the season and possibly the early part of spring training next year. The 30-year-old southpaw has made 28 starts for the Brewers in each of the past two seasons and will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter.

Brewers placed RHP Marco Estrada on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad strain.
Estrada suffered the injury on Wednesday night while running the bases. Brewers general manager Doug Melvin told a radio station in Milwaukee on Thursday morning that the 28-year-old right-hander will miss 3-4 starts. It's not yet clear who will be asked to fill in.
