Grant Balfour is unhappy about losing his closer's job to Brian Fuentes.

And he's been vocal about it, both to manager Bob Melvin and to the media. "I told him I wasn't happy," Balfour said. "I was [ticked] off. That's fine. Whatever. I'll just go on the field and do what I gotta do." Melvin had a different version of the events: "It was more 'Do I have a chance to get this back?' and I said 'Absolutely.' I've been on many teams [where] you give the closer a little break and give him a chance to iron things out, and he'll have that opportunity. It's not uncommon that guys get pulled out of that role and end up reclaiming it." Balfour started great, but blew two saves and posted an 11.81 ERA over his last seven games. 	4	Scott Sizemore D.L. Scott Sizemore underwent successful surgery on his left knee Wednesday morning. Sizemore was expected to open the season as the A's starting third baseman, but he tore the ACL in his left knee early in camp and has been ruled out for the entire 2012 season. However, he's fully expected to be ready for spring training next year. Mar 21

CF	1	Yoenis Cespedes D.L. Yoenis Cespedes will change the way he grips a bat in time for his return from the disabled list. Cespedes used to nestle the knob of the bat in the palm of his hand, but the A's think that may have caused the muscle strain that sent him to the disabled list and want him to stop. "It's not like Yoenis has an easy swing; he swings the bat hard," manager Bob Melvin said. "This is proactive." Cespedes should be ready by early June. May 24

	2	Manny Ramirez Suspended Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that the team is not "locked into" activating Manny Ramirez on May 30. Ramirez is eligible to join the A's on May 30, but the team wants him to get around 40 at-bats in the minors and show that he can produce offensively. He's 3-for-8 with two walks over his first three games with Triple-A Sacramento. May 23

Obviously, we won't know for sure if he'll be ready then until we see how he feels after picking up a ball again. But, the A's seem optimistic and McCarthy himself said when he went on the DL that he wouldn't be out long. Feel free to scoop him up in fantasy leagues if he's been dropped. May 22

	7	Dallas Braden D.L. Dallas Braden (shoulder) has currently halted his throwing program. Braden had been playing catch often, but the A's have decided he needs to build up more shoulder strength before throwing again. He remains without a timetable for return, but we almost surely won't see him before the All-Star break. May 22
	8	Brett Anderson D.L. Brett Anderson (elbow) will be shut down for a few days with forearm tightness. It's not a huge concern at this point, given he's coming back from Tommy John surgery. If all goes as scheduled, he could rejoin Oakland's rotation as soon as late June or early July. May 19
