Bobby Seay (shoulder) hopes to be throwing off a mound by April and pitching in games by July or August.
Seay missed all of last season with shoulder soreness and finally decided to undergo surgery in September. "My agent told me just get healthy, and if you're healthy, we're not going to have any problem finding a job somewhere," said Seay, who is currently a free agent. The 32-year-old right-hander last posted a 4.25 ERA and 37/17 K/BB ratio over 48 2/3 innings with the Tigers in 2009. .

The Tigers declined to offer salary arbitration to Bobby Seay.
Seay, a 32-year-old reliever, registered a 4.25 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 67 relief appearances in 2009 for the Tigers, but missed all of 2010 following shoulder surgery. He will probably settle for a one-year deal this winter.

Bobby Seay underwent season-ending shoulder surgery earlier this week.
"Everything went well," Tigers trainer Kevin Rand said. "He’ll be in a sling for one month and begin throwing -- not off the mound -- at four months." It sounds like Seay should be ready for the start of the 2011 season.

Bobby Seay paid a visit to orthopedic specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum on Monday and is still weighing whether to have shoulder surgery.
Seay has been shut down for close to month and will almost certainly need a procedure before he feels well again. The left-handed reliever should not be counted on this season and might not be ready by spring of 2011.

Austin Jackson will be placed on the disabled list Friday with an abdominal strain.
We figured it was just a matter of time. Jackson hasn't played since last Wednesday, so the Tigers couldn't afford to go shorthanded on their bench any longer. The 25-year-old center fielder is scheduled to return to Detroit on Friday to undergo additional testing, including an MRI. His stint on the disabled list will be backdated to May 17, so he'll be eligible to return on June 1. Quintin Berry and Don Kelly should share playing time in center field for now. Ryan Raburn will be activated from the bereavement list Friday in a corresponding roster move.

Victor Martinez (knee surgery) has been off crutches for 10 days.
Martinez had microfracture surgery on his left knee in late January and underwent a procedure in early March to help the healing of his ACL. V-Mart can't afford any setbacks, but he's encouraged about the possibility of returning in September. We should know more about his status when he undergoes an MRI during a check-up in July.

Valverde hasn't pitched since last Tuesday because of lower back tightness. The 34-year-old right-hander has a 5.51 ERA and is just 7-for-9 in save opportunities this season but remains a strong fantasy option at closer and should be made active in all leagues immediately.

Good news. Schlereth is already performing range of motion exercises and should soon be cleared to resume throwing. He's been on the disabled list since late April.

Al Alburquerque (elbow) has begun long-tossing at the Tigers' spring training facility in Florida.
Alburquerque is throwing from 150 feet, and if he continues to be progress should be cleared to throw off a mound before long. The Tigers are hoping to get the hard-throwing reliever back around the All-Star break.
