Fernando Rodney earned his 16th save of the season in Sunday's win over the A's, despite allowing a hit and a walk in the scoreless ninth.
If nothing else, Rodney certainly knows how to offer an entertaining ninth inning. Holding a 2-1 lead over the A's on Sunday, he recorded the first two outs in routine fashion. Then, the Fernando Rodney Save Experience swung into full effect, as he allowed an infield single to Josh Reddick and a walk to Ike Davis. He managed to retire Mark Canha on a grounder to end the game, but still. This is why the Mariners can't have nice things. Rodney is working to regain his role as closer, but it's clear to anybody watching that Fernando Rodney is who he is and will continue to pitch like Fernando Rodney. Loops of logic aside, he currently holds a 5.18 ERA and a 27/17 K/BB ratio over 33 innings while going 16-for-19 in save chances. Jul 5 - 7:12 PM
