Mike Maroth told Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com that he has decided to retire.
"I gave it everything I had," said Maroth. "I feel confident that I’m making the right decision. I’d love to keep playing, but I realize that I don’t have it in me. I have no regrets. I put forth all of the effort possible to continue to play, but I believe my body just can’t do it anymore." Maroth hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2007 due to surgeries on his shoulder, knee and elbow. He'll call it a career with a 50-67 record and 5.05 ERA over 161 games (150 starts). The left-hander will always be remembered for his 2003 season when he became the first pitcher to lose 20 games in a season since Brian Kingman went 8-20 for the A's in 1980.
