Infante didn't play Monday or Tuesday so that he could travel back to his native Venezuela following the death of his grandfather. He'll hit second in his return Wednesday.

Infante headed back to his native Venezuela on Sunday evening following the death of his grandfather. He is batting .326/.357/.568 with six home runs and 20 RBI.

The Marlins figure to place him on the bereavement list and call someone up. It's not clear how many days Infante will be away.

Omar Infante had a spectacular day at the plate on Tuesday, going 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI to lead the Marlins to a 6-2 victory over the visiting Pirates.
Infante's two-run single in the fourth inning extended the Marlins' lead to 4-1, and that would prove to be all of the offense that starter Josh Johnson would need. Infante is off to a terrific start in 2012, hitting .325 with six homers and 19 RBI. While he's unlikely to continue at this power pace, he's well worth starting in fantasy leagues until he begins to cool off.

Marlins placed OF Austin Kearns on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain.
Kearns suffered the injury Tuesday night and hadn't made enough progress by Thursday afternoon. The Fish have called up Kevin Mattison in a corresponding move.

Emilio Bonifacio will have thumb surgery Friday and is expected to miss four to six weeks.
Tough break for Bonifacio, who was placed on the disabled list earlier this week with what was originally described as a left thumb sprain. The surgery will keep him out through late June or early July. Bryan Petersen should get the majority of playing time in center field during his absence, but it's tough to get excited about him outside of NL-only fantasy leagues.

Ceda underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Tuesday and will miss the entire 2012 campaign.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, Marlins reliever Juan Carlos Oviedo has secured a work visa.
Oviedo received a pardon from the U.S. State Department earlier this week and is now free to travel back to Florida. He'll report to extended spring training in a couple of days to begin working out. The 28-year-old is expected to get an eight-week suspension from Major League Baseball but is finally out of the woods from a legal standpoint.
