White Sox signed 1B Justin Morneau to a one-year, $1 million contract and placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a primary flexor injury in his left elbow.
The White Sox are shaking things up. They traded for James Shields last weekend and designated Mat Latos for assignment on Thursday. Now Morneau, a 13-year veteran and former AL MVP, will enter the mix. The 35-year-old is only two years removed from winning the NL batting title, though injuries limited him to just 49 games last season. Morneau is still recovering from offseason elbow surgery and probably won't make his White Sox debut until mid-July. When he arrives, he'll likely back up Jose Abreu at first base while seeing some time at DH. Jun 9 - 4:17 PM
