Brandon Webb is retiring from baseball.
Webb drew a bit of interest this winter from teams like the Mets, Phillies, Marlins and Nationals but he was never offered a contract. The sinkerballing right-hander won the National League Cy Young Award in 2006 with the Diamondbacks and also enjoyed exceptional output in 2007 and 2008, but he eventually developed chronic shoulder issues and was never able to fully recover. The 33-year-old will retire with a superb 3.27 career ERA.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick lists the Mets, Phillies, Marlins and Nationals among the teams keeping tabs on free agent right-hander Brandon Webb.
The Rockies and Twins have been mentioned most frequently until now. Webb hasn't pitched in the majors since Opening Day of the 2009 season due to nagging shoulder issues, but he's trying another comeback attempt. Now 33 years old, he'll almost certainly have to settle for a minor league contract.

The Denver Post's Troy Renck reports that the Rockies "remain interested" in Brandon Webb.
Renck also adds that Webb is "moving closer to setting a date to throw for teams." The former Cy Young winner hasn't pitched in the majors since Opening Day of 2009 due to shoulder issues but evidently thinks he's healthy enough to give it another shot. He'll have to settle for an incentive-laden, non-guaranteed deal.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies have shown interest in free agent hurlers Brandon Webb and Jeff Karstens.
The 33-year-old Webb has been derailed by shoulder injuries and hasn't pitched in the big leagues since Opening Day of 2009. Karstens turned in a solid 3.97 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 15 starts for the Pirates in 2012. They're each the type of low-risk signings that the pitching-starved Rockies should absolutely consider.

Rangers placed 2B Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 18, with an intercostal strain.
Kinsler hasn't started the last two games with rib soreness and said he still felt discomfort during batting practice on Sunday. The Rangers aren't overly concerned about the injury, but top prospect Jurickson Profar will be called up to replace Kinsler on the active roster. Kinsler is batting .302/.369/.500 with seven home runs through his first 40 games this season.

The move clears a 40-man roster spot for the recently-claimed Joe Benson. Harrison underwent a second back surgery in late April and is expected to be sidelined at least another two months.

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Friday that he's not sure whether Alexi Ogando (biceps) will require a minor league rehab start before coming off the disabled list.
Ogando will throw off flat ground on Saturday and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Monday. An MRI revealed no structural damage in his biceps, so as long as he feels no pain, he should be ready to go as soon as he's eligible to come off the disabled list.

Colby Lewis (elbow) acknowledged on Monday afternoon that he's unhappy with his fastball velocity.
Lewis was sitting around 85-86 mph in his rehab start Monday at Double-A Frisco and wants to be closer to 89-91 mph by the time he returns to the major leagues. The hope had been that he would be ready to rock during the first week of June, but a more realistic timetable calls for him to be activated near the middle of the month. Lewis is on his way back from major right elbow surgery.

Feliz's rehab from Tommy John surgery is going fine, although it's not yet been announced when he'll be ready to throw off a mound. We expect him to return to a major league mound late in the summer.

Joakim Soria (elbow) will be shut down for 2-3 weeks with a strained pectoral muscle and is now not expected to return until around July 1.
A tough break for the Rangers, as Soria had been slated to join the Rangers' bullpen as soon as late next month. The good news is that his surgically-repaired elbow is fine. The Rangers will continue to use a host of players to set up for Joe Nathan.
