Doug Waechter has retired from baseball.
Waechter called it quits this weekend after failing to find any interest from major league teams following a lengthy recovery from his third career shoulder surgery. The 30-year-old played six seasons in the big leagues, posting a 5.34 ERA in 384 1/3 career innings. He pitched for the (Devil) Rays, Marlins and Royals.

Royals transferred RHP Doug Waechter to the 60-day disabled list.
Waechter underwent season-ending labrum surgery in August, but should be ready for the start of 2010. The Royals cleared his spot on the roster in order to make room on the 40-man.

Doug Waecheter will undergo labrum surgery next week, the Royals announced Sunday.
Waechter has pitched just 5 1/3 innings for the Royals this season, giving up five runs. He's been on the DL since having a setback with his shoulder two weeks ago.

Royals placed RHP Doug Waechter on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder.
And back he goes. Waechter has spent close to four months on the disabled list this season, dealing with injuries ranging from a strained right elbow to a strained left oblique. He has pitched just 5 1/3 innings, allowing five runs, nine hits and three walks.

Royals manager Ned Yost said Jarrod Dyson (ankle) is likely "at least three weeks" away from returning.
Dyson is dealing with a high right ankle sprain. He had been receiving more starts before the injury and again could threaten Jeff Francoeur for playing time once healthy.

Danny Duffy (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Sunday.
He'll throw 60 pitches for the Naturals. Making his way back from Tommy John surgery, Duffy will surely require the full 30 days on his rehab assignment. Assuming the results are there and his arm strength is back, he should be added to the Royals' rotation in late June. The left-hander is worth stashing on the DL if you have the roster space.

Felipe Paulino (elbow) threw 25 pitches of live batting practice on Saturday.
It's Paulino's second such session as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The Royals are hoping that Paulino will be able to throw five innings on the anniversary date of his surgery (July 3), but it will be later than that before he's ready to rejoin the rotation.
