Noah Lowry delayed a Tuesday throwing session for major league scouts in Phoenix because he wants more time to get ready for the audition.
That this was done 24-hours before the exhibition probably won't endear Lowry to scouts. He hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2007 due in large part to his battle with thoracic outlet syndrome. Lowry had a 4.03 ERA from 2003-2007 with the Giants, however, and is hoping to prove his health during the throwing session. The Red Sox, Cardinals, Dodgers, Mariners, Cubs, Nationals and Mets were expected to attend, along with a few others.

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, free agent left-hander Noah Lowry will hold a private workout for interested teams next Tuesday in Phoenix.
About 15 teams are expected to be in attendance, including the Red Sox, Cardinals, Dodgers, Mariners, Cubs, Nationals and Mets. Lowry, 29, hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since 2007 due to thoracic outlet syndrome, but had a 4.03 ERA from 2003-2007 with San Francisco. Lowry is looking for an incentive-laden one-year deal before jumping back into free agency next winter.

Updating a previous item, Corey Brock of MLB.com writes that it's "nearly certain" the Padres aren't in on free agent left-hander Noah Lowry.
Brock says the Padres can't afford to miss with their remaining funds being rather scarce. The Padres are seeking durability and dependability in their rotation, two traits that Lowry simply can't offer. The 29-year-old southpaw hasn't appeared in a major league game since the 2007 season.

Giants placed RHP Ryan Vogelsong on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right hand.
Vogelsong was hit by a pitch while swinging the bat in the fifth inning Tuesday and suffered fractures above and below the top knuckle in his pinkie. He's expected to undergo surgery Tuesday and will likely miss around six weeks. Chad Gaudin is the most likely replacement for the rotation, though the Giants could call up Michael Kickham from Triple-A.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated Friday that knee surgery is a "strong possibility" for Santiago Casilla.
They'll announce their decision later Friday evening. Casilla has been dealing with a cyst in his right knee since last season, and became enough of an issue recently that he had to be placed on the DL. If he undergoes the surgery, which appears likely at this point, the timetable for his recovery would be four weeks.
