White Sox signed RHP Brian Bruney to a minor league contract.
Bruney was released by the White Sox in August after posting an ugly 6.86 ERA and 16/12 K/BB ratio in 19 2/3 innings last season. But he's back on board with a minor league deal and will serve as relief depth in 2012.

White Sox released RHP Brian Bruney.
Bruney was designated for assignment 10 days ago and failed to draw interest from other teams on waivers. He had a 6.86 ERA in 19 2/3 innings with the White Sox.

He was cleared to make room for Saturday's starter Zach Stewart. Bruney has an ugly 6.86 ERA and 16/12 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 innings this season. Chances are he'll make it through waivers unclaimed.

White Sox purchased the contract of RHP Brian Bruney from Triple-A Charlotte.
Bruney has posted a sparkling 1.31 ERA and 30/9 K/BB ratio in 20 2/3 innings this season for Charlotte. He should do well in middle relief for the Pale Hose.

Brent Morel will not need surgery to repair a lumbar back strain.
"My pain is more extension, so if I was to bend back or when I get in a ready position [on defense], and it's more ... called something like the facet or the knuckle around the disc, which is really good news," Morel said. "They were happy to find that out. It's never operated on. It can be controlled very easily in the training room, and by calming it down." Morel will begin new back exercises Thursday, a process he'll continue for 4-5 days. After that, he'll be allowed to hit and throw before going out on a rehab assignment.

John Danks said he is currently dealing with soreness behind his left shoulder.
Danks has been scratched from Friday's start against the Indians and is expected to be placed on the disabled list. Jose Quintana will be called up from Double-A Birmingham to pitch in his place Friday. It's clear how long Danks has been pitching through the soreness, but this would certainly explain why he has struggled so much in the early going. The southpaw hopes to return on June 4, but White Sox manager Robin Ventura seems to think he won't need a minor league rehab assignment.
