Twins signed outfielder Jon Knott, infielder-outfielder Howie Clark and catcher Eli Whiteside to minor league contract.
Three former Orioles. Knott might have had a chance of helping the Orioles last year had he posted his usual numbers in Triple-A, but he went from hitting 32 homers with 113 RBI for Portland in 2006 to 13 homers and 34 RBI in 288 at-bats for Norfolk last season. He'd still likely be a pretty useful lefty killer, though the Twins shouldn't have much need for him if they keep Craig Monroe.

Orioles designated outfielder Jon Knott for assignment.
This was certain to happen sooner or later after the Orioles declined to give him a September callup. Knott can hit lefties well enough to contribute, but his performance in the minors this year won't help his case for a job next year.

Orioles optioned first baseman-outfielder Jon Knott to Triple-A Norfolk.
As if the Orioles really need both Brandon Fahey and Luis Hernandez with Miguel Tejada back. Hernandez has hit a lot better than expected, but that could end at any time and both players are Triple-A material at this stage of their careers.

Orioles recalled outfielder Jon Knott from Triple-A Norfolk.
The Orioles were expected to go in a different direction, but they apparently weren't willing to dump Knott from the 40-man roster to make room for anyone else. Knott will be useful against lefties if he's given the chance. However, he received all of six at-bats in his first two stints with the Orioles this season.

Darin Mastroianni will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair a bone chip on his left ankle, and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.
It was a very discouraging sign when Mastroianni, who was already progressing slowly in his recovery, was uncomfortable testing his ankle during light sprints on Wednesday. He shouldn't be expected to return to the Twins until after the All-Star break and can safely be dropped in deeper mixed formats.

An MRI taken Wednesday on Tim Wood's right shoulder showed no signs of major structural damage.
Wood is headed to Minnesota for a second look. The 30-year-old has posted an ugly 8.68 ERA in 9 1/3 innings this season between High-A Fort Myers and Triple-A Rochester. He is currently on the MLB disabled list.
